With the recent vist of Dr. Gabriel Cousens; raw food extrodinare, a series of questions and concerns from all of the ashramites has come up. Questions of whether we should keep drinking soy, how much beepolin to intake a day, and why eating lower on the food chain contains less radiation. In fact, the talk has had such a big impact on all of us that the ashram is now going to start incorporating raw foods into all meals. I have to say that im ecstatic about this! Though the food was good before, eating mainly Northern Indian food (think heavy and starchy) every single day has left me feeling less than great. Especially when im scheduled to work outside or meditate for long periods of time. Im hoping that the new lighter and fresher meals will give everyone (but mainly me) the needed energy to carry on without being weighed down by dal.
I’ve also noticed a recent trend of my being asked to work in the kitchen more and more as time goes on, with my current schedule including cooking at least four days a week. So with my increase of the kitchen responsibilities has also come opportunities for me to come up with some new raw recipes. Starting next week I’m going to be preparing some raw food for dinner, though I know a few recipes (many of them courtesy of the blog My New Roots) I’m still not use to cooking this way for so many people! It’s different when it just yourself, or even a handful of people, but 40 to 50? That’s a whole different story….

Going to a lecture on raw foods tonight presented by Gabriel Cousins; hopefully I won’t still be stuck on the image I posted below.
Yesterday was dry, sunny and just windy enough to cause my dress to fly up about three times. Today is one of those “quick, run outside and fix the drain so we don’t get flooded” kind of days. The weather here will forever confuse me. (the photo above shows what it looks like when it starts to rain, what it doesn’t show is how in less than five min the ground can turn into an ocean)
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the states! I miss you all very much, I’ll be sure to eat plenty of vegetarian Indian food for you all. Happy Holidays :)
